I certainly had Google in mind when I wrote the original post and hoped that CPW were sufficiently web-minded to understand the potential damage I could do to them.
It would be very wrong of me to second-guess the company&#039;s motives for rushing to my aid less than 12 hours after I wrote the post, though... despite a week of no help whatsoever on the phone.

That said, I think you&#039;ve missed the point when you praise them here and praise the Internet for being so awesome and fast. The reason behind their abrupt change of heart is summed up in the first para of this comment of mine - you created a potential negative publicity time bomb. Had you not been a person with an established blog, capable of commanding at least a little bit of the mighty Google&#039;s attention, would they have given a second thought to you? I severely doubt it. It&#039;s fine that they were nice to you in the end, but spare a thought for all the average people who don&#039;t have blogs and hence have no way out of the horrible Kafka-esque maze of stonewalling and delays that all these companies construct to inflate their profit margins still further. And if you&#039;re thinking these people should set up blogs in order to give themselves somewhere to complain, well, what kind of world is it where people have to do that? It&#039;s ridiculous.
